Please welcome Carpet Cleaners Wandworth as today’s guest poster.
There is nothing better than having a fluffy, clean and perfectly well-maintained carpet. But achieving that is yet another thing! There are a lot of misconceptions out there when it comes to carpet cleaning. And in many cases, these result in unfortunate carpet cleaning mistakes.
Here we give you a list of some most common carpet cleaning mistakes to avoid in order to save you a carpet cleaning nightmare:
Not all products are suitable for your carpet
Using the incorrect cleaning solution on your carpet can lead to permanent damage and sometimes discolouration. Make sure that you use cleaning products that are suitable for carpets. Read the labels.
Rubbing the carpet
When dealing with a spill or spot on a carpet, it might be the first instinct to grab a damp tea towel and start frantically scrubbing the area.
Rubbing a stain is one of the top carpet cleaning crimes, as it can actually force the substance deeper into the fibres, as well as spreading the discolouration. It can also damage the carpet fibres.
Never use scrubbing tools or brushes.
Waiting too long to clean up a spill
The longer you wait to remove a stain, the tougher it will be to remove it. By waiting for a spill to dry, you are allowing the liquid to soak into the carpet fibres and be absorbed into the carpet deeper and deeper. This can cause wicking when you attempt to remove the spot, odour and sometimes even mould growth.
When cleaning, avoid soaking the area with water or cleaning product, because applying too much moisture can in fact be detrimental to your carpet, resulting in issues from discolouration to damp odours. So make sure that you absorb any remaining moisture with a white bath towel or a wad of paper towel by pressing it firmly into the carpet, or stand on the towel for extra pressure.
Never having your carpet professionally cleaned
Professional carpet cleanings play an important part in extending the life of your carpets. Most carpet manufacturers recommend that carpets are cleaned every 12 – 18 months. Professional carpet cleaning will not only prolong the life of your carpets but will also help to promote a cleaner indoor environment
If you are determined to clean the carpet on your own, try to avoid the mistakes addressed above. Yet, hiring professional help remains the best option for deep cleaning your carpets, saving you unnecessary stress.
