Date: Wed, 8 Nov 2000 10:19:58 -0000 Dear Jake, It was a pity you chose last night's dinner to indulge your rather wayward sartorial tastes. Though I appreciate that what you were wearing probably cost a good deal of money, I know your Aunt Rosa and your cousin Lisa (who I specially invited, and who I know is very fond of you) would have preferred to see you in something other than a pair of bowling shoes and a pair of mock military style trousers. In my day, it was expected that a son would make an effort when visiting his father - worn a suit at the very least - with brogues buffed to a high shine. I would not think of imposing such formality in this day and age. But the next time you come for dinner, I'd ask you to think of your guests. « prev | next » |
