Subject: You
young people don't understand romance?

Dear Jake,
As I ponder the failure of yet another of your relationships, I think
the time has come for me to offer you some advice. You're not unattractive
in appearance, and when you take time to make the effort, I've noted a
degree of charm. And yet still no prospective partner. This leads to a
lot of gossip in the family. This doesn't concern me. What I wish for
most is your own personal happiness. And I sense that you are at present
a deeply unhappy young man.
You
must remember that the art of wooing a woman is like a military campaign
- you have to marshal your forces (making the best of what you have been
given) before laying siege and mounting her battlements. You can't just
hang back waiting for her to let the drawbridge down in surrender. The
trouble with your generation is that you've forgotten old-fashioned courting.
