just like home

The brown bar is a Dutch staple, an old-style
drinking environment. It is very gezellig - meaning 'cosy'
or 'home-like'.
Basically you get beer, served typically in a weird
glass, cheery red faced locals, canal-side seating, and not much
more. Bliss.

Café T'Smalle
sedate and chatty
In a leafy bit of the Jordaan, rest your aching
legs outside on the canal side or inside the wooden-panelled interior.
No special beers but a few snacks.
Egelantiersgracht 12
De Prins
Pretty reknown example of a dutch bar hangout
Nicely positioned for a late afternoon, early
evening baking from the sun, De Prins is attractive and very gezellig.
Dutch and locals of all ages mix. A chill place to sit with shopping
between your legs.
Prisengracht 124

Spent a memorable evening by the side of some
gracht chewing the fat outside a coolio brown bar? Good. Recommend
