Good News & Bad News

the good news
Woo hoo. I'm escaping Hastings, courtesy of the dole. About a month ago I told them I needed £2000 from the Jobseekers Emergency Fund.

the Greek island of Samos

'What for?' they asked. 'I need a car so I can get to job interviews more easily,' I replied. "And a suit" 'So the loan is to improve your jobsearch capabilities?' 'Yes,' I said.

A couple of days after that I received a letter saying I couldn't have £2000, but that they would give me £250, and the giro finally came in the post this morning, so I'm off to Greece for a week, next Monday (26th).

the bad news
Unfortunately, while I was in town sorting out the details, I got collared by Brendan, and, rather pleased with myself, started bragging about my holiday.

His hand was outstretched immediately...'Good bloody job!'

I stupidly continued to give him more and more information.
He was shaking my hand again by the time I'd finished.

'Only 220 quid, huh?" he said, shaking my hand. "Bloody good job. And they have two rooms left? Good bloody job mate.'

Oh no...
